For this craft, all you need is old newspapers, dryer lint, and toilet paper tubes. I've tested these by burning them when we go camping and found that as long as you don't pack the toilet paper tubes too tight with the lint, they should burn beautifully. This is a fun and easy craft that you can have your children help you with and teach them the importance of recycling or repurposing things! It's pretty simple to do, but just in case you need a little help, here is how it's done:
- Dryer Lint
- Toilet Paper Tubes
- Cut or tear a section of newspaper into a square section either by using a quarter of a large sheet or half of a small sheet.
- Place a single toilet paper tube on the newspaper, loosely adding dryer lint, leaving room at each end of the tube to allow air flow and room to tuck the ends of the paper in.
- Place your toilet paper tube at one corner, roll the newspaper up holding the corner, then tuck the ends in on each side of the tube.
- BURN! You can light the tube with a lighter or match, and place inside your kindling or stick pile at the base of you .
A convenient way to store these is by saving old shoe boxes with a hinged or separated lid. Another good use of things thrown out!
